A tragic accident in Chattogram’s Satkania Upazila on Wednesday morning resulted in the deaths of two auto-rickshaw passengers and left several others injured. The collision occurred when a microbus struck a stationary battery-operated auto-rickshaw that had stopped to pick up passengers.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident took place at approximately 9:30 am near the BOC Mor intersection, in front of the Rajmahal Community Centre, along the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar Highway in Kaliaish Union. The force of the impact was severe, leading to immediate fatalities and multiple injuries.

Officer-in-Charge of Dohazari Highway Police Station, Mohammad Salauddin Chowdhury, confirmed that both the microbus and the auto-rickshaw involved have been impounded. He added that formal legal proceedings are underway to establish liability and ensure justice for the victims.
Local authorities have emphasised the urgent need for caution along the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar Highway. Reckless driving, overcrowded roadside passenger pickups, and insufficiently regulated stopping points are recurring contributors to accidents in the area.
Road safety experts warn that auto-rickshaw passengers are particularly vulnerable during peak hours and have called for stricter enforcement of speed limits, enhanced roadside safety measures, and increased public awareness campaigns. “This tragedy underscores the importance of traffic discipline and the urgent need for improved infrastructure to protect passengers,” a local official said.
The Satkania incident has reignited public concern over road safety in Chattogram, highlighting the vulnerability of small vehicle passengers and the urgent need for preventive measures to avoid similar accidents in the future.
