The renowned Bangladeshi vocalist and Ekushey Padak awardee Mahbuba Rahman has passed away, marking the end of an illustrious chapter in the country’s musical heritage. She died on Thursday evening at a private hospital in Dhaka while undergoing treatment. Family sources confirmed that she succumbed to age-related complications. She was 91.
Her death has been met with widespread mourning across the cultural community, as she was regarded as one of the pioneering female voices in the early development of modern Bangladeshi music and film playback singing.
Born in 1935, Mahbuba Rahman displayed a strong inclination towards music from a very early age.
