A passenger bus carrying around 40 people overturned on a rural road in northern Bangladesh after the driver lost control and the vehicle struck a roadside tree, leaving multiple passengers injured and prompting a swift local rescue response.
The accident occurred on Thursday (26 March) at around midday in the Lakshminarayani–Phultala area under the Sundardighi Union of Debiganj Upazila in Panchagarh District.
According to local accounts, the bus, operated on the Domar (Nilphamari) to Dinajpur route, was travelling at speed when it suddenly veered out of control. The vehicle first collided with a roadside tree before overturning onto its side on the highway. The impact caused panic among passengers, many of whom were trapped momentarily inside the tilted cabin before managing to escape through broken windows and damaged doors.
Eyewitnesses from the surrounding area rushed to the scene immediately after the crash. Local residents assisted in rescuing passengers and helping the injured reach nearby medical facilities before emergency services fully arrived.
A team from the Debiganj Fire Service later reached the location. However, by the time they arrived, most passengers had already left the scene independently to seek treatment. Fire service personnel confirmed that two injured individuals were rescued and provided initial assistance on-site.
Authorities stated that, despite the frightening nature of the incident and the large number of passengers onboard, no fatalities were reported. The condition of the injured is believed to be stable.
Police have indicated that the driver likely lost control of the bus, although the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation. Mechanical failure, speeding, or road conditions have not yet been ruled out.
