Surge in Ham Outbreak: 21 Children Hospitalised in Mymensingh

Mymensingh Medical College Hospital has admitted 21 children exhibiting symptoms of ham disease within the past 24 hours, hospital sources confirmed.

The recent admissions took place between 9:00 am on Tuesday, 31 March, and 9:00 am on Wednesday, 1 April. All affected children are currently receiving treatment in the hospital’s dedicated ham isolation ward.

According to hospital officials, since 17 March, a total of 143 children have been admitted with ham-related symptoms at Mymensingh Medical College. Tragically, five of these young patients have succumbed to the illness. At present, 64 children remain under treatment, while the others have recovered and been discharged.

Hospital Measures

Mohammad Mainuddin Khan, Assistant Director (Administration) of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, stated that in response to the escalating cases, the hospital inaugurated a 64-bed isolation ward on the eighth floor on Monday. The ward is specifically designated for children affected by ham. Three specialised medical teams have been deployed to provide round-the-clock care and ensure effective treatment.

Dr Khan further confirmed that within the last 24 hours, 21 new children with ham symptoms were admitted to this facility. He emphasised the hospital’s readiness to manage the outbreak and urged parents to seek immediate medical attention if their children display any concerning symptoms.
