The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has officially finalised its list of candidates for the reserved women’s seats in the 13th National Parliament. The announcement was made on Monday during a press briefing at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the Senior Joint Secretary General of the BNP and Advisor to the Prime Minister, formally declared the names of the nominees selected by the party’s high command.
Among the prominent names included in the list is Mansura Alam, a key leader of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP. Her nomination marks a significant transition from student politics to national legislative representation. Shortly after the announcement, Mansura Alam expressed her gratitude on social media, posting, “All praise is due to Almighty Allah,” in response to her selection.
Mansura Alam (also referred to as Mansura Akter) currently serves as the Vice President of the Central Committee of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. Her academic background is rooted in the University of Dhaka, where she was a student of the Department of Law during the 2012-13 academic session. Her inclusion in the parliamentary list is viewed as a recognition of her long-standing activism and leadership within the student wing.
The following table summarises the key details regarding the nominee:
| Attribute | Details |
| Name | Mansura Alam (Mansura Akter) |
| Political Affiliation | Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) |
| Current Party Role | Vice President, Central Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal |
| Academic Background | Department of Law, University of Dhaka (2012-13) |

| Parliamentary Term | 13th National Parliament |
In the parliamentary system of Bangladesh, reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion to their total number of elected seats in the general election. These seats are intended to ensure female representation in the Jatiya Sangsad. The BNP, having secured its position in the 13th Parliament, has exercised its constitutional right to nominate representatives for its allotted share of these 50 reserved seats.
The selection process for these seats typically involves rigorous vetting by the party’s standing committee, focusing on candidates’ loyalty, contributions to the party, and professional qualifications. Mansura Alam’s legal education and her administrative experience within the Chhatra Dal were reportedly pivotal factors in her selection.
Following the official announcement by the party, the nominees are required to submit their nomination papers to the Election Commission. Once the documents are verified and the statutory period for withdrawal has passed, the Election Commission will officially declare them elected. As a Member of Parliament (MP) in a reserved seat, Mansura Alam will hold the same status, rights, and responsibilities as those elected in general seats, contributing to the legislative process and policy-making within the 13th National Parliament.
The BNP leadership stated that this list reflects a blend of experienced political veterans and young, educated leaders, aimed at strengthening the party’s presence in the legislative chamber.
