Principal Suspect Apprehended Following Brutal Assault in Pakundia

In a decisive move to uphold public order and justice, the Pakundia Police in Kishoreganj have apprehended the primary suspect in a violent assault case that left a young woman severely injured. The suspect, identified as Naimul (20), was taken into custody during the early hours of Wednesday, 22nd April 2026. The arrest follows a harrowing incident on Friday, 17th April, where a domestic dispute escalated into a premeditated armed attack within the Sukhia area.

Escalation of a Long-Standing Feud

The victim, Mst. Rasheda (24), the widow of the late Borhan Uddin, has reportedly been embroiled in a protracted dispute with a local group consisting of Naimul, Shahid, Naeem, and Nasrin. This simmering animosity reached a violent crescendo last Friday evening when the group allegedly forcibly entered Rasheda’s residence armed with indigenous weapons.

According to police reports and the formal complaint, the assailants initially targeted Rasheda with verbal abuse. When her young daughter, Shrabanti, attempted to intervene and protest against the harassment, the group turned their aggression toward the child, subjecting her to a physical beating. Rasheda’s attempt to shield her daughter resulted in a brutal retaliation from the armed group.

Details of the Injuries Sustained

The assault was characterised by a disturbing level of violence. One of the accomplices, Shahid, allegedly used a sharp cleaver (dao) to strike Rasheda on the head, causing a deep, haemorrhaging wound. Simultaneously, another suspect, Naeem, utilised an iron rod to strike her repeatedly, resulting in severe crushing injuries to both her right and left arms.

Legal Proceedings and Police Action

Following the attack, Rasheda was rescued by neighbours who responded to the victims’ cries for help. She was immediately transported to the Pakundia Upazila Health Complex, where she remains under medical supervision for her head trauma and fractured limbs.

On 20th April, Rasheda filed a formal First Information Report (FIR) at the Pakundia Police Station. The case names four specific individuals and includes two to three unidentified accomplices. Naimul, cited as the number one accused in the case, was traced to the Sukhia area and apprehended in a pre-dawn raid on Wednesday.

SM Arifur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pakundia Police Station, confirmed the arrest and stated that Naimul was produced before the court on Wednesday afternoon, where the magistrate ordered him to be sent to jail pending further investigation.

Pursuing the Remaining Assailants

While the apprehension of the principal suspect marks a significant breakthrough, the local community remains on edge as several other named assailants remain at large. The police have intensified their efforts, conducting raids across various locations in Kishoreganj to bring the remaining suspects, including Shahid and Naeem, to justice.

This incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of widowed women in rural settings to territorial and social disputes. Local activists have called for more robust protection measures to ensure that domestic grievances do not devolve into life-threatening violence.

The Pakundia Health Complex authorities have noted that while Rasheda is currently stable, the recovery from her limb injuries will be a long-term process requiring significant physiotherapy. The police have assured the victim’s family that they are treating the case with the utmost priority to ensure a comprehensive prosecution.
