A wave of panic has gripped the residents of Tekuapara village in the Garadah union of Shahjadpur upazila, Sirajganj, following a series of robbery threats delivered via blood-stained letters. In response to the escalating tension, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Sirajganj district, Md. Saifullah Islam Santu, conducted an on-site inspection of the affected village late on Saturday (16 May). During his visit, the SP engaged with the community, urging residents to remain calm and assuring them of comprehensive police protection.
According to local sources, Tekuapara village has been targeted by an organised gang of criminals over the past several days. The perpetrators have carried out a succession of robberies, frequently employing sedative sprays to incapacitate residents before looting their homes.
Following these incidents, the criminals escalated their tactics by delivering threatening letters to at least 15 households over a period of four to five days. The author of these letters identified themselves as “Raghu Dakat” (Raghu the Robber). Panic escalated significantly when a letter delivered to the residence of a local inhabitant, Abu Sayeed, was found to be stained with blood.
The written ultimatum in the letter explicitly warned:
“We will come to rob your house tomorrow, so keep the door open. If you do not keep it open, you will be executed alive…? Regards, Raghu Dakat.”
Local residents reported that the criminal gang has already successfully targeted multiple households in the area. By breaking window grilles and using chemical sedatives, the perpetrators have managed to breach secure lockers and wardrobes. The stolen items include substantial amounts of cash, gold ornaments, mobile phones, and other valuable personal belongings. Additionally, a bull valued at approximately 200,000 BDT was stolen from one of the residences.
With the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha (the festival of sacrifice) approaching, local cattle farmers and agriculturalists are particularly distressed about the safety of their livestock. The fear of losing their animals to thieves has forced many villagers to spend sleepless nights guarding their homes and sheds.
The table below summarises the criminal activities and reported losses in Tekuapara village based on the verified accounts:

Furthermore, a collaborative security framework involving both the police and the local community is being established.
