The Manikganj District Intelligence Branch (DIB) has successfully apprehended the primary suspect in a case involving the severe physical and sexual assault of a five-year-old child in the Singair sub-district. The individual, identified as 45-year-old Moti Bepari, was taken into custody on Tuesday, 5 May, following a coordinated operation.
According to official police reports, the arrest was conducted in the Deoghata area under the jurisdiction of Mirzapur Police Station in the Tangail district. The District Intelligence Branch utilised advanced information technology and surveillance methods to track the suspect’s movements after he fled the initial scene of the crime. Moti Bepari is the son of Md. Subur Ali Bepari, a resident of Madhabpur village within the Chandahar Union of Singair Upazila.
The circumstances surrounding the case were detailed in the First Information Report (FIR) and substantiated by family sources. It is reported that approximately six years ago, Moti Bepari married a woman who was then pregnant. Six months after the union, the woman gave birth to a daughter, whom the suspect had since lived with as a stepfather.
The specific incident reportedly took place on the night of Friday, 1 May. According to the victim’s mother, the family had retired to bed at approximately 11:00 pm. The prosecution alleges that at roughly 2:00 am, the suspect administered a sedative or anaesthetic substance to his wife to render her unconscious. During this window, he allegedly subjected the five-year-old child to a brutal assault.
The mother reportedly regained consciousness upon hearing the child’s cries of distress. She discovered the child in a state of severe physical agony. The mother further alleged that upon being confronted, Moti Bepari subjected her to verbal abuse and threats before fleeing the residence under the cover of darkness.
Following the discovery of the assault on Saturday morning, the child was immediately transported to the Singair Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition. Medical officers at the facility provided primary emergency care; however, due to the severity of the injuries sustained, the minor was referred to the Manikganj District General Hospital for advanced clinical intervention.
Hospital authorities have confirmed that the victim is currently under intensive observation by a specialised medical team. Forensic examinations are being conducted to gather biological evidence essential for the judicial process. The child’s condition remains a priority for the district medical board.
A formal case was lodged at the Singair Police Station on Monday, 4 May, by the mother of the victim. Speaking to the media, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Singair Police Station, Md. Mazharul Islam, confirmed that the police initiated an immediate manhunt following the registration of the case under the relevant sections of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
“Following the filing of the case on 4 May, our teams began a series of raids to apprehend the perpetrator. By leveraging technological tools and the assistance of the District Intelligence Branch, we managed to pinpoint his location in Tangail,” stated OC Mazharul Islam.
The suspect was tracked from Manikganj to the neighbouring district of Tangail, where he was eventually cornered and arrested. The police have confirmed that the process of producing the accused before the court is currently underway. The prosecution is expected to seek a remand period to further investigate the specifics of the assault and the source of the sedative allegedly used on the mother. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring a rigorous legal pursuit of the case.
