A sophisticated investigation has been launched by law enforcement in the Boalmari sub-district of Faridpur following the discovery of a body under suspicious circumstances. The victim, identified as Rabiul Islam, 36, was found dead near the Satoir-Mohammadpur road in the Mayna union on the night of Tuesday, 5 May. While initial appearances suggested a vehicular incident, authorities now believe the scene was a deliberate attempt to disguise a premeditated murder as a road traffic accident.
Rabiul Islam, a tractor driver by profession, was the son of Golam Sarwar Sheikh, residing in Sindhain village within the Mohammadpur sub-district of Magura. He is survived by his wife and an eleven-year-old child. On Wednesday, 6 May, the Boalmari police confirmed the detention of four individuals in connection with the fatality, as the narrative transitioned from a tragic collision to a criminal inquiry.
The roots of the incident trace back approximately two years to an elopement and subsequent marriage between Shahidul Sheikh, a resident of Hatkholarchar village in Boalmari, and the daughter of Sayed Molla from Magura. The union, conducted against parental wishes, was reportedly plagued by domestic instability. Recent escalations in marital discord led the wife to abandon the marital home and return to her father’s residence.
The conflict intensified following allegations that Shahidul had taken a motorcycle belonging to his brother-in-law and used it as collateral for a loan elsewhere. This act created a significant rift between the two families. On the afternoon of Tuesday, Sayed Molla travelled to his son-in-law’s village, accompanied by his neighbour, Rabiul Islam, with the intention of retrieving the vehicle. After a heated verbal exchange regarding the return of the motorcycle, the pair initially left the premises without the bike.
According to local reports and police statements, Shahidul contacted the pair later that evening, claiming he was ready to return the motorcycle and requesting they return to his house. It is alleged that this second meeting was a tactical deception. Upon their arrival, Sayed Molla was directed to wait at the home of a local village elder (Matubbar), while Rabiul Islam was discreetly led away by Shahidul and his associates under a different pretext.
Shortly thereafter, Shahidul contacted his father-in-law via mobile phone, instructing him to return home and promising that the motorcycle would be delivered the following morning. Rabiul Islam, however, failed to reappear, and subsequent attempts to locate him proved unsuccessful.
At approximately 09:30 pm, residents in the Bottala area noticed a private car that had veered off the Satoir-Mohammadpur road and into a roadside ditch. While attempting to assist the vehicle’s occupants, locals discovered the bloodied remains of a man lying nearby. Through the use of a mobile phone found at the scene, the body was identified as the missing Rabiul Islam.
Eyewitnesses reported that four to five young men were present in the vehicle at the time of the crash. As the crowd gathered, three of the occupants fled the scene on foot. However, local residents managed to apprehend two individuals, identified as Shahajada, 23, and Tapu Saha, 22, who were subsequently handed over to the police. It is the prevailing theory of local investigators that the victim was murdered elsewhere and his body was being transported for disposal; the suspects lost control of the vehicle during their attempted flight, resulting in the accidental discovery of the crime.
The primary suspect, Shahidul Sheikh, and his immediate family members have reportedly fled the village, and their mobile devices remain deactivated. Golam Sarwar Sheikh, the father of the deceased, has formally alleged that his son was lured to the location and killed in a planned ambush.
Md. Anwar Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalmari Police Station, stated that the incident is being treated strictly as a homicide. The body has been transferred to a local morgue for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. He confirmed that four persons are currently in custody for interrogation.
Md. Azam Khan, the Assistant Superintendent of Police for the Madhukhali Circle, noted that preliminary findings indicate the victim sustained multiple injuries consistent with physical assault.
“It appears to be a premeditated murder stemming from a dispute over a motorcycle,” ASP Khan remarked. “The role of the private car found in the ditch is a central focus of our ongoing investigation.”
The police have cordoned off the site and are conducting raids to apprehend the remaining suspects, including Shahidul Sheikh, as forensic teams continue to analyse evidence from the vehicle.
