A 24-year-old man has been apprehended by the police in Jessore after allegedly entering a residential property and assaulting a housewife and a teenage girl consecutively. The criminal incident transpired within the Chanchra Magurpatty area of Jessore town. Following a swift law enforcement response, the suspect was detained during an overnight raid conducted in the early hours of Wednesday, 10 June.
According to official data provided by the police and the victims’ relatives, the two individuals—a housewife and her sister-in-law’s teenage daughter—were sleeping inside their shared residence on the night of the incident. The housewife’s husband was away from the property at the time, a circumstance that the perpetrator exploited to surreptitiously gain access to the premises under the cover of darkness.
Upon entering the room, the suspect initially assaulted the sleeping housewife. Due to the darkness, the victim mistakenly assumed her husband had returned home. However, upon waking fully, she identified the intruder and realised a crime was being committed.
When the victims attempted to raise an alarm, the intruder issued death threats and subjected them to severe intimidation to ensure their compliance. The suspect then proceeded to assault the teenage girl before fleeing the scene. When the housewife’s husband returned to the residence later that night, the victims narrated the events. The family immediately proceeded to the Kotwali Police Station to lodge a formal complaint.
Inspector Kazi Babul of the Kotwali Police Station formally confirmed the arrest of the suspect. He stated that upon receiving the formal complaint, an operational team was immediately deployed, leading to the apprehension of the accused during the late-night sweep.
The detained individual has been identified as Raki, aged 24, who is the son of Rajzak Hossain and a resident of the Chanchra Dalmill area. Preliminary criminal database checks conducted by the police revealed that Raki is a listed offender with a prior murder case pending against him.
Inspector Babul further confirmed that both victims have been transferred to a local hospital for mandatory forensic and medical examinations to secure critical physical evidence. A formal case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
