A devastating road traffic accident claimed the lives of four individuals, including three members of the same family, in the Domar upazila of Nilphamari. The tragic incident occurred at approximately 3:30 pm on Sunday, 12 July 2026, on the Domar-Jaldhaka regional highway in the Panga Matukpur-Nadia sector. A speeding lorry rammed into a battery-operated local passenger van from behind, reducing the small vehicle to a mangled heap of metal.
The collision resulted in instantaneous fatalities on the tarmac. Emergency responders and local residents identified the deceased as the van driver, Parimal Barman, 40, son of Oli Barman, alongside Pratima Rani, 28, wife of Pradip Barman, and her two young sons, Pitosa, 8, and Jadab, 4. All victims hailed from the Nadiapara neighbourhood. The sudden loss of a mother and her two children has cast a profound shroud of mourning over the close-knit local community.
According to local sources and eyewitnesses, the victims were travelling aboard the battery-powered van along the regional highway when a reckless, fast-moving transport lorry lost control. The heavy goods vehicle rammed into the rear of the slow-moving van with immense force. The impact completely crushed the structure of the passenger van, trapping the occupants beneath the wreckage.
Following the crash, nearby residents rushed to the scene to initiate rescue operations. Whilst four individuals died on impact, two other passengers sustained catastrophic injuries. Bystanders pulled the survivors from the debris and transported them directly to the Domar Upazila Health Complex. Given the critical nature of their trauma and deteriorating vital signs, the attending medical officers quickly referred both injured patients to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced emergency care and surgical intervention.
Upon receiving information about the multi-fatality crash, a contingent from the Domar Police Station went to the site to restore order and manage traffic congestion on the regional route. The police took custody of the bodies and transferred them to the local morgue for statutory legal processing and post-mortem examinations.
The Officer-in-Charge of Domar Police Station, Md Habibullah, confirmed the details of the accident. He stated that law enforcement personnel are executing all necessary legal formalities in connection with the incident. Whilst the authorities have seized the offending lorry at the scene, the driver and his assistant managed to flee the area immediately after the crash. Police units have launched a targeted operation to apprehend the fugitives, whilst an investigation into vehicular negligence on the highway remains ongoing.
