Jennie Kim, known globally by the mononym Jennie, has achieved unprecedented international stardom since her debut with the K-pop phenomenon Blackpink. Initially rising to prominence under the stewardship of YG Entertainment, her artistic journey has evolved significantly over the past decade. Based on insights from the Korea JoongAng Daily, a closer inspection of her multifaceted career reveals an artist who is continuously redefining her global boundaries.
Jennie officially entered the music industry in 2016 as a key member of Blackpink. The group’s debut single album, Square One, featured the smash-hit tracks Whistle and Boombayah, which instantly propelled the quartet to global fame. Before this explosive debut, however, Jennie had already honed her skills as a prominent trainee within her agency. She collaborated with several established artists, notably featuring on tracks with the legendary Big Bang leader G-Dragon, which showcased her immense potential as both a vocalist and a rapper.
As Blackpink solidified its status as one of the most successful girl groups in history, Jennie began carving out an equally impressive solo path. In November 2018, she released her debut solo single, aptly titled Solo, which dominated international music charts. She followed this success in October 2023 with the release of her second solo track, You & Me, which met with widespread critical and commercial acclaim. Towards the end of 2023, Jennie made a strategic move to secure greater creative independence by establishing her own management agency, Odd Atelier (OA). This dedicated venture has allowed her to steer her solo musical endeavours with complete autonomy.
Under her own label, Jennie launched the highly successful single Mantra in 2024. Building on this momentum, 2025 marked a major milestone with the release of her first full-length solo studio album, Ruby. The album debuted at number seven on the prestigious Billboard 200 chart, firmly establishing her as a formidable independent force in the global music market.
Despite her roaring solo success, Jennie remains deeply committed to her roots as a member of Blackpink. The group is currently active with their World Tour Deadline concerts whilst simultaneously promoting their third extended play (EP) of the same name. Beyond her musical achievements, Jennie has solidified her status as an absolute fashion icon. Her long-standing role as a global brand ambassador for the French luxury fashion house Chanel has made her an indispensable fixture at international fashion weeks, cementing her influence far beyond the realm of K-pop.
