Twelve Injured in Indian Wedding Brawl Over Mutton Menu Change

A wedding celebration in the eastern Indian state of Bihar descended into absolute chaos, transforming the venue into a virtual battleground over a dispute regarding the food menu. The violent confrontation erupted between the families of the bride and the groom after mutton curry was substituted with chicken during the wedding feast. According to local police and Indian media reports, the resulting clash left at least 12 people from both sides severely injured.

The trouble began shortly after the formal marriage rituals of the groom, identified as Mohammad Abdullah, also known as Chand, had concluded peacefully on Thursday afternoon. The joyous atmosphere shattered when the wedding feast was served to the arriving guests.

A group from the groom’s side expressed sharp dissatisfaction upon discovering chicken on their plates instead of the mutton they claimed had been mutually agreed upon during the wedding negotiations. Accusing the bride’s family of breaking their promise, several guests initiated a heated verbal altercation with the hosts.

The oral dispute escalated rapidly into a physical confrontation. Witnesses reported that as tensions boiled over, members of the bride’s party armed themselves with wooden sticks and batons, launching an assault on the disgruntled guests. What followed was a chaotic melee involving punching, kicking, and blunt force. Footage of the incident circulated widely on social media platforms, capturing terrifying scenes of individuals attacking one another with heavy sticks, whilst a few individuals were even seen brandishing open swords amidst the crowd.

Upon receiving emergency calls, local police units rushed to the venue to quell the violence and disperse the rioting crowds. Officers managed to rescue the casualties from the melee, securing immediate transport to a nearby hospital for the 12 individuals who sustained serious injuries.

The area remains highly tense following the unseemly brawl. Law enforcement authorities have launched a formal investigation into the incident, examining the footage and questioning eyewitnesses to ascertain whether underlying grievances or prior disputes contributed to the extraordinary level of violence over a catering change.
