Anjan Dutt Tribute Concert Brings Joy, Sunny and Shuvro Together

Bangladeshi musicians to honour the legendary singer-songwriter with a special evening of music

Popular Indian singer-songwriter Anjan Dutt’s enduring influence on Bengali music will be celebrated in Bangladesh with a special tribute concert titled “Ekdin Brishtite Bikele…”, where three prominent Bangladeshi singer-songwriters — Joy Shahriar, Ahmed Hasan Sunny and Shuvro — will come together to perform his memorable songs.

The concert is scheduled to take place on 31 July at Butternote Café in Banani. Although Anjan Dutt himself will not be present at the event, his music and artistic legacy will remain at the centre of the evening, as Bangladeshi artistes pay tribute to a musician whose songs have shaped the listening experiences of generations across Bengal.

Anjan Dutt has performed in Bangladesh several times over the years, attracting enthusiastic audiences with his distinctive storytelling style, conversational lyrics and unique approach to songwriting. His songs, often reflecting urban life, personal emotions and everyday struggles, have earned him a devoted following among music lovers in both Bangladesh and West Bengal.

The upcoming tribute concert will feature performances of some of Anjan Dutt’s most celebrated tracks, alongside selected songs from the personal repertoires of Joy Shahriar, Ahmed Hasan Sunny and Shuvro. The artistes aim to create an atmosphere that reflects not only admiration for Anjan Dutt’s work but also the connection between his music and the contemporary singer-songwriter movement in Bangladesh.

Joy Shahriar said Anjan Dutt has been one of the most influential figures for singer-songwriters like them. He also highlighted the impact of other celebrated Bengali musicians, including Kabir Suman and Nachiketa Chakraborty, whose songwriting traditions have inspired many modern artistes.

“Among the artistes who have inspired singer-songwriters like us, Anjan Dutt is one of the most influential. There are others too, including Kabir Suman and Nachiketa Chakraborty. We have immense respect for them. At this concert, we will perform Anjan Dutt’s songs alongside some of our own. Even our original songs will be performed as a tribute to Anjan Dutt,” Joy said.

Ahmed Hasan Sunny described the concert as a deeply meaningful occasion for musicians who have grown up listening to Anjan Dutt’s songs. According to him, the artiste’s words and melodies have played a significant role in shaping the creative journey of many Bangladeshi singer-songwriters.

“Anjan Dutt has had a profound influence on singer-songwriters in Bangladesh. In many ways, we grew up in the city of his words. Performing at a concert dedicated to him is truly special. When Joy Shahriar bhai told me about the event, I immediately agreed. I hope we can give the audience a memorable evening,” Sunny said.

Organised by Ajob Karkhana, the main programme will begin at 7:00pm on 31 July. The event is expected to bring together fans of Bengali contemporary music and admirers of Anjan Dutt’s timeless songwriting.

Tickets for the concert will be available in two categories. Early bird tickets are priced at Tk 700, while tickets purchased at the venue will cost Tk 1,000. The organisers hope the evening will become a celebration of musical memories, creativity and the lasting influence of one of Bengal’s most respected singer-songwriters.
