Police Chase Suspects Across Tin Roofs in Anti-Drug Raid

A dramatic police operation unfolded at Haji Mazar Basti in Tongi, Gazipur Metropolitan City, where officers pursued suspected drug-related offenders across the tin roofs of densely packed makeshift homes during a special anti-narcotics raid.

The operation was carried out from Sunday afternoon until 10pm under the overall guidance of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Israil Hawlader. The raid was led by Additional DIG (Crime and Operations) Mohammad Belayet Hossain, as part of an ongoing campaign to curb drug trafficking and abuse across the metropolitan area.

During the operation, police teams moved through the narrow lanes and crowded sections of Haji Mazar Basti, an area known for its tightly arranged tin structures and difficult access routes. At one stage, several suspected individuals attempted to escape by climbing over the roofs of nearby tin houses. In an effort to prevent their escape, Additional DIG Mohammad Belayet Hossain personally climbed onto the roofs and joined the pursuit.

Other police personnel quickly surrounded the area from multiple directions, blocking possible escape routes and conducting searches across the settlement. Several suspects were subsequently detained during the operation.

Witnesses said the sight of police officers moving from one tin roof to another while chasing fleeing suspects attracted considerable attention among local residents. The unusual nature of the pursuit became a topic of discussion in the area, with many residents observing the operation as officers navigated the challenging environment.

According to Gazipur Metropolitan Police, the raid was conducted as part of a wider strategy to control drug-related activities in the city. Officers recovered approximately 270 grams of heroin, 20 yaba tablets, and various items allegedly used for drug consumption during the operation.

A total of 40 people were detained on allegations of drug consumption. Police officials said legal procedures under the Narcotics Control Act are being initiated against those found involved in unlawful activities.

The authorities said tackling drug abuse remains a major priority for maintaining public safety and improving law and order in Gazipur Metropolitan City. Police officials added that intelligence-based operations and targeted raids would continue in different areas to identify and take action against individuals involved in drug-related offences.

Officers involved in the operation said the police would maintain a strict stance against drug dealers and users involved in illegal activities. They also urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing information about suspicious activities to help create a safer environment for communities across the metropolitan area.
