A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami in Boalmari, Faridpur, has been relieved of his organizational duties following allegations of an extramarital affair with the wife of an expatriate worker. Syed Sajjad Ali, Secretary of the Boalmari Pourashava unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, confirmed the disciplinary action on Tuesday, 18 August.
The accused, 26-year-old Inamul Mollah, served as the Amir of Ward No. 9 under the Boalmari Pourashava unit. Son of Mohammad Akram Mollah of Kushadangha village, Inamul works as a receptionist at Molla Doctor K. Halim Hospital in the local Boalmari market.
Local sources and party members revealed that Inamul had allegedly been involved in a relationship with a woman residing in Kutipara within the Kushadangha area. The woman’s husband works abroad in the Middle East. Rumours of their relationship began circulating locally in recent weeks, causing widespread discussion and social criticism throughout the neighbourhood.
The matter escalated when the expatriate husband telephoned the hospital management directly from abroad. Rezaul Karim, Manager of Molla Doctor K. Halim Hospital, confirmed receiving a call two days prior. According to Karim, the husband expressed distress over the affair and inquired about the hospital’s workplace stance regarding Inamul’s conduct. Karim stated he was unaware of the situation at the time and informed the caller accordingly.
Efforts to contact Inamul for a statement were unsuccessful as both of his mobile phones remained switched off following the allegations, and family members could not be reached.
Addressing the party’s stance, Syed Sajjad Ali clarified that Inamul was temporarily relieved of his post based on preliminary allegations. An internal investigation is underway, and if the claims are substantiated, he will face permanent expulsion from the party. He stressed that Jamaat-e-Islami accepts no responsibility for the personal misconduct of any individual member.
