Coast Guard officers in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, have apprehended two suspected drug traffickers and seized 40,000 Yaba tablets valued at approximately BDT 20 million during a targeted anti-narcotics operation. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ferdous and Mohammad Kawsar.
Providing details of the drive, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed that the intelligence-led raid took place at around 11:00 am on Saturday, 17 October 2026. A specialized operational team from the Coast Guard Station in Teknaf positioned themselves in the Keruntoli area under Teknaf Model Police Station following precise information regarding a narcotics consignment being transported via local transport routes.
During the operation, patrol personnel intercepted three suspicious battery-powered auto-rickshaws, locally known as easy-bikes. A thorough search of the vehicles uncovered the massive haul of methamphetamine tablets, alongside two mobile phones used for coordinating the smuggling route. Seeing the law enforcement officers, one of the easy-bike drivers managed to flee the scene and evade capture. However, officers swiftly cordoned off the area to arrest the remaining two suspects.
The three easy-bikes used to transport the contraband were impounded on site as evidence. Coast Guard officials confirmed that the seized narcotics, communication devices, vehicles, and the two suspects have been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for formal filing of cases and further legal proceedings.
Bordering Myanmar, the Teknaf region remains a critical corridor for maritime patrols targeting illegal trafficking networks. The Coast Guard emphasised that surveillance across coastal routes and key transit points in Cox’s Bazar will continue unabated to dismantle narcotics smuggling rings operating in the area.
