Carlos Alcaraz has insisted that his loss to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon final has not diminished his spirits, as he sets his sights on the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Masters. The Spanish star, currently ranked World No. 2, is embracing a fresh start in the second half of the season.

The 21-year-old was beaten in a Grand Slam final for the first time in his career last month at the All England Club. Yet, upon arriving in Cincinnati on Wednesday, he expressed a sense of pride and renewed motivation.

“Even if I lost, I left the court proud after Wimbledon,” said Alcaraz, a finalist at Cincinnati in 2023.
“But the goals can change during the second half of the season. My goal is to keep doing the right thing, improving, and enjoying my time—both on and off the court.”

Despite the disappointment, Alcaraz remains ambitious, setting his sights on reclaiming the world’s top ranking:

“I also want to try and recover the number one ranking by the end of the year,” he added.

A Welcome Break in Spain

Following Wimbledon, both Alcaraz and top-ranked Jannik Sinner chose to skip the ATP Toronto Masters. Alcaraz spent three rejuvenating weeks at home in Spain, allowing himself time to rest and reset.

“I took a week off, doing absolutely nothing,” he shared.
“Then I started training at home, catching up with friends and family. Just being home in the summer—I couldn’t believe it.
I tried to make the most of my time. I wanted to come strong to Cincy.”

Rivalry with Sinner: A Tale of Two Finals

Alcaraz and Sinner have faced off in two major finals this year. Alcaraz emerged victorious at the French Open, but Sinner returned the favour at Wimbledon, capturing his first title on grass.

The Spaniard spoke fondly of their growing rivalry:

“I’m happy to be building such a rivalry,” said Alcaraz.
“We’ve done a lot in tennis in a short period of time. People talk about what we’ve already contributed to the history books, but we have long careers ahead of us. Let’s see how far we can go.”
