The woman submitted a written complaint to the Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner on 24 September. However, the allegations came to wider public attention only on Friday, around a month and a half after the complaint was lodged. According to a senior Gazipur Metropolitan Police official, the matter remains under investigation.
The complainant alleges that she has been living in fear since approaching the police commissioner, claiming that the OC and people associated with him have issued threats against her and her family. She says the situation has left her feeling unsafe even inside her own home.
According to the written complaint, the incident dates back approximately one year and five months, when Ittekhar Hossain was serving at Kashimpur Police Station. The woman had visited the station to raise a personal complaint. During that visit, she alleges, the officer obtained her mobile phone number and subsequently began contacting her regularly.
Their communication gradually developed into a romantic relationship, according to her account. She claims that Hossain introduced himself as unmarried and promised to marry her. Trusting his assurances, she alleges, she entered into a physical relationship with him.
The woman further claims that the officer regularly took her to the residence of his friend, identified as Sohel, where they had sexual relations.
When she subsequently pressed him to fulfil his promise of marriage, Hossain allegedly asked her to wait for five years. He later refused to marry her altogether, according to the complaint.
The allegations also include claims of verbal abuse, psychological harassment and death threats. The woman says that after learning about the relationship, Hossain’s father telephoned her and made insulting remarks about her family’s financial difficulties.
She alleges that when she objected to his father’s behaviour, the OC responded with abusive language, subjected her to mental harassment and threatened to kill her.
The complainant has also raised concerns about an incident on 11 September. According to her statement, Hossain sent his friend Sohel and another man, whom she described as his purported uncle, to her residence.
She alleges that the two men intimidated her, took away her mobile phone and deleted call recordings and messages exchanged between her and the officer. The alleged removal of these records has raised concerns about the possible loss of material that could be relevant to the investigation.
In her complaint, the woman expressed fears that Hossain and his associate Sohel could misuse their influence to cause serious harm to her and her family. She also fears being implicated in false criminal cases.
She further alleged that the OC sent messages to her parents asking them to arrange her marriage to someone else, promising to provide some money at the time of the marriage.
Speaking about the complaint, the woman said she and her family had faced threats since she approached the metropolitan police commissioner. She claimed that fear of the accused officer and his associates had restricted her freedom of movement.
“I cannot even leave my home because of fear of them. I want justice,” she said.
When contacted for comment, Konabari Police Station OC Ittekhar Hossain rejected all the allegations, describing them as entirely false.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner Taherul Haque Chowhan said an officer had been appointed to investigate the complaint after it was received.
He said the police would take appropriate action once the investigation was completed and the report submitted.
The case has drawn attention to the importance of accountability within law enforcement agencies, particularly when allegations are brought against officers holding positions of authority. The complainant’s claims of intimidation also raise questions about her safety while the investigation is under way.
As the allegations remain under investigation, their validity has yet to be established. A fair and impartial inquiry, along with appropriate protection for the complainant and her family, will be essential to ensure that the matter is addressed in accordance with the law.
