The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education is set to introduce a ‘pre-employment training’ programme for assistant teachers in government primary schools across the country. This initiative is scheduled to begin on a pilot basis from January 2026. The National Academy for Primary Education (NAPE) will be responsible for implementing the programme, confirmed NAPE Director General Farid Ahmad.
Piloting and Training Procedure
Currently, training is provided to primary school teachers after they join their posts. However, under the new initiative, prospective candidates will have the opportunity to undergo training before securing employment.
The pilot training, lasting ten months, will be conducted from January 2026 at ten Primary Training Institutes (PTIs) nationwide. Interested candidates must apply for admission to the training programme. Following a screening process, final candidates will be selected. If the number of applicants exceeds the available slots, an examination may be held.
Training Content and Future Benefits
Farid Ahmad explained that the training will be provided to graduates and postgraduates aspiring to enter the teaching profession. The programme will cover various subjects, including classroom teaching methods.
Although the pilot will begin at ten PTIs, the training will gradually be expanded to all 67 PTIs across the country.
Furthermore, those who complete this pre-employment training will receive priority during recruitment. If the pilot is successful, the programme will be rolled out on a larger scale in the future
This pre-employment training initiative is expected to improve the quality of education by preparing teachers more thoroughly before they commence their duties in government primary schools.
