At Least 250 Killed in Floods and Landslides Across Northern Pakistan

Severe rains in northern Pakistan have triggered sudden floods and landslides, resulting in the deaths of at least 250 people in a single day. In addition, a helicopter carrying relief supplies crashed during a rescue operation, killing five individuals on board.

Officials have warned that the death toll could increase further due to the ongoing uncertain situation in the affected areas.

A report by the BBC stated that a helicopter transporting relief materials to disaster-hit regions crashed, killing all five people on board, including two pilots, according to the administration of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the progress of rescue and relief operations. The Prime Minister directed authorities to initiate rapid relief efforts in the flood-affected regions.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported that heavy rainfall is expected intermittently in the region until 21 August, which could exacerbate the ongoing crisis.
