BCB Takes Strict Measures Against Corruption, Introduces Pre-Tournament Classes for Players

Concerns over match-fixing and corruption have surrounded the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and the Dhaka Premier Division League (DPL) for several weeks. Media reports highlighted various issues in these tournaments, and the investigation committee’s preliminary report has now reached the desk of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President. In response, the BCB is taking a strict stance and introducing proactive measures to curb any undesired incidents.

Speaking on the initiative, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul stated: “We must protect cricket. Our top priority is to safeguard the sport, and we must do it collectively.”

As part of this effort, the BCB now plans to conduct workshops and classes for players before domestic tournaments begin.

  • First Step: A special workshop will be organised for all players participating in the upcoming National Cricket League (NCL).
  • Players will receive a detailed Bengali translation of the Anti-Corruption Code of Conduct, ensuring they fully understand its contents.
  • Mandatory Signatures: Participants must sign a form confirming they have understood the rules before being allowed to play.

Bulbul confirmed that the same measures will extend to the third division cricket tournaments: “From October, the third division cricket season will commence. We want every tournament funded by the BCB to ensure players are fully educated on anti-corruption laws and the Code of Conduct. They will read, understand, and sign before participating. We start with the NCL and will continue with all third division teams so everyone is aware.”

The initiative will include players, coaches, and umpires, Bulbul said: “To protect the game, our scope includes players, coaches, and umpires. Beyond that, we will run campaigns to inform everyone of cricket’s rules, policies, ethical and religious values through the media. We aim to safeguard cricket, and we hope the media will also support these efforts.”

Implementation Plan Overview

Phase Tournament Participants Anti-Corruption Measures Notes
Phase 1 National Cricket League (NCL) All players Workshop on Anti-Corruption Code, mandatory signature Launches pre-tournament
Phase 2 Third Division Cricket All teams Same workshop & signature requirement From October 2025

This comprehensive approach reflects BCB’s determination to protect domestic cricket from corruption, while ensuring that all stakeholders – players, officials, and the media – are actively involved in promoting integrity in the sport.
