Akshay Kumar Faces Criticism for Cleaning Juhu Beach

Every year, following the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, Mumbai’s Juhu Beach becomes littered with offerings such as flowers, straw, and plastic waste. This year was no exception. In response, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar joined a clean-up drive to help restore the beach.

Participation in the Clean-Up Drive

  • Akshay Kumar was seen cleaning the beach alongside Amrita Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister.
  • The initiative was organised by a volunteer organisation, with Akshay participating out of a sense of social responsibility.
  • The actor emphasised: “We must take care of our planet. Maintaining cleanliness is extremely important.”

He further added: “Keeping our surroundings clean is not just the government’s responsibility; it is the duty of every individual. Even our Prime Minister emphasises cleanliness.”

Despite his good intentions, the actor faced backlash on social media:

  • A video of the clean-up went viral, attracting criticism instead of praise.
  • Many netizens labelled his efforts as ‘showy’ or ‘attention-seeking’.
  • Some speculated it was purely theatrical, while others claimed it could be a promotional strategy for his upcoming film, ‘Jolly LLB 3’.

Akshay Kumar’s Perspective

  • He maintains that his participation was motivated by genuine concern for environmental cleanliness.
  • Akshay underscores the importance of collective action for societal welfare, stating that civic responsibility extends beyond governmental duties.
