As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has announced a special initiative to ensure affordable access to essential animal-based food items for residents of Dhaka. Under this programme, milk, eggs, beef, and broiler chicken will be sold at reduced prices through 25 strategically placed mobile sales centres across the city.
The initiative will run for 26 days, starting from the day before Ramadan until the 25th day of the month. The ministry confirmed these plans in an official statement released on Tuesday, 3 February.
According to the statement, a meeting was held on 1 February at the ministry’s conference hall to discuss measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of meat, eggs, and milk while maintaining market price stability during Ramadan. The meeting was chaired by Farida Akhtar, Advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. Following extensive deliberations, it was decided that, throughout the month, the ministry, in collaboration with the Department of Livestock Services, would offer these products at affordable rates to meet the nutritional needs of the general public.
