Arms and Ammunition Recovered in Rajshahi Raid, Woman Arrested

Detectives have seized two operational foreign-made pistols, three empty magazines, and seven rounds of live ammunition during a late-night raid on a residence in Bagha upazila under Rajshahi district. Officers from the District Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested 36-year-old Mst Rozina Khatun at the scene on Saturday night. Her husband, 44-year-old Md Rubel Hossain, managed to evade capture and remains on the run.
The police operation unfolded late on Saturday evening in the Napitpara area of Alaipur village within Bagha upazila. Acting on precise intelligence regarding illegal firearms, a specialized DB team led by Police Inspector Md Mominul Hasan surrounded the house. During a meticulous search of the main bedroom, officers discovered the concealed arsenal hidden directly beneath the bed frame. Rozina was taken into custody after failing to produce valid ownership documentation for the weapons and ammunition.
Following preliminary interrogation, Rozina confirmed her husband’s identity and background details to investigating officers. Police revealed that Rubel Hossain had previously served as a Union Parishad (UP) member for approximately six months during the final period of the former Awami League-led government.
Detective Branch officials indicated that Rubel leveraged his political ties under the previous administration to exert local dominance. Authorities suspect he belonged to an organised syndicate involved in illicit drug trafficking and local criminal enterprises. Rubel already faces multiple criminal charges, including drug-related offences, with several cases currently pending trial before the courts.
Law enforcement agencies believe the arms and live rounds were stored by Rubel for potential deployment in criminal activities or local turf disputes. However, formal investigations are underway to establish the exact origin of the foreign pistols, how they were smuggled into the region, and whether they were used in recent violent incidents.
Confirming the legal proceedings, Police Inspector Md Mominul Hasan stated that Rozina Khatun was produced before the court on Sunday, 13 September, where she was remanded into judicial custody. Multiple detective units have launched drives to track down the absconding former UP member, while a case under the Arms Act is being processed at Bagha Police Station.
