According to local residents and eyewitnesses, the passenger vehicle belonging to ‘Dashmina Express’ had departed from Dashmina upazila in Patuakhali district and was heading towards the capital, Dhaka. As the speeding coach reached the Six-Mile stretch along the highway, a pedestrian unexpectedly attempted to cross the road directly in front of the vehicle. In a desperate attempt to avert a fatal collision, the driver slammed on the brakes; however, the braking mechanism reportedly failed to respond adequately, causing the driver to lose control of the steering wheel. The vehicle veered sharply off the tarmac and rolled over into a deep pond adjacent to the highway.

The sudden crash prompted immediate action from nearby residents, who rushed to the bank of the pond to launch initial rescue efforts. Local volunteers waded into the water to help panicked passengers break through windows and extract trapped individuals from the overturned chassis. Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived shortly after, coordinating with locals to ensure every passenger was safely evacuated from the submerged coach.

The joint rescue operation successfully brought all occupants ashore. Those suffering from severe trauma and injuries were promptly transferred to local medical facilities and Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal for emergency treatment, whilst passengers with minor cuts and bruises received first aid at the scene.

Confirming the details of the accident, Shakhawat Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station, stated that swift intervention by responders prevented any fatalities. He added that police units worked at the site to manage highway traffic and arranged heavy recovery equipment to tow the damaged bus out of the pond.
