The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended the alleged murderer of a divorced woman in Joydebpur, Gazipur, within 24 hours of the crime. The suspect, identified as Masud Rana, was arrested in Kurigram during a joint operation, according to an official press release issued on Friday by Senior Assistant Director Shah Alam of RAB-1.
Masud Rana, a resident of Anantapur village in Kurigram and the son of Omar Munshi, reportedly attacked his ex-wife, 30-year-old Rishma Khatun, with a sharp knife after she refused his proposal for remarriage. The assault took place on Wednesday morning on the road adjacent to Akkash Sikder’s house in Bikbari, Joydebpur, as the victim was on her way to work.
RAB officer Shah Alam described the incident: “The assailant struck the victim repeatedly, causing severe bleeding. Colleagues nearby raised the alarm, prompting Masud Rana to flee the scene immediately. Despite the efforts of her colleagues and local residents, the victim succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital.”
Following the tragic death, Rishma Khatun’s father, Md. Abdul Hakim, filed a murder case at Joydebpur Police Station. RAB-1’s Porabari camp investigative team subsequently launched an operation to track down the suspect. Leveraging intelligence and technological assistance, the team located Masud Rana on Thursday night at the residence of Momor Uddin in Jolangarkuti Bura-Buri area, 4 No. Anantapur Char Union, under Ulipur Police Station in Kurigram.
The suspect has been handed over to Joydebpur Police Station for formal legal proceedings. RAB officials emphasised that the swift arrest highlights their commitment to prompt action in violent crimes and ensuring justice for victims.
