In a shocking incident in Boalmari Upazila, Faridpur District, a teenage worker was fatally injured when high-pressure air was deliberately forced into his body. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) has apprehended the main suspect, 22-year-old Rihad Sheikh alias Hakim.
The arrest was announced during a press briefing held on Thursday evening at the RAB-10 headquarters by Company Commander Squadron Leader Tarikul Islam. According to RAB sources, the suspect was captured from Sripur Thana in the neighbouring Magura District. Rihad Sheikh is a resident of Ramnagar village in Boalmari Upazila. Authorities identified and detained him through a special operation conducted as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order and suppress criminal activity.
The tragic event occurred on the night of 23 February at the Akij-Bashir Janata Jute Mill, located in Dobura village, Satair Union. The victim, Md. Sajib Sharif, aged 12, was cleaning his body using the compressed air pipe after completing work at the mill. According to the case file, Rihad Sheikh and an accomplice deliberately introduced high-pressure air into the boy’s rectum, causing severe abdominal swelling and critical internal injuries.
Sajib was initially admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite surgical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries on the morning of 25 February. Doctors reported that multiple intestinal perforations caused by the high-pressure air were beyond repair.
