The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a significant step to facilitate the return of Shakib Al Hasan to the national cricket team. The board has submitted all legal documents related to the former Tigers captain’s cases to the government, clearing a major administrative hurdle that had delayed his comeback. Cricket-focused media outlet CricBuzz reports that this development could pave the way for Shakib to don the Bangladesh jersey once again after a prolonged absence.

Sources indicate that all three stakeholders—the government, BCB, and Shakib himself—are now aligned in supporting his return. Central to ongoing discussions were the legal cases filed against Shakib after 5 August 2024. With the government granting official approval, the path has been cleared for resolution, signalling a renewed opportunity for the seasoned all-rounder to rejoin the national side.

Aminul Haque, the newly appointed State Minister for Youth and Sports, had emphasised even prior to the election that no athlete should face political retribution. Since taking office, he has reiterated that the government would provide full support to ensure prominent players, including Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza, can return to both domestic and international cricket safely.

BCB has welcomed the government’s supportive stance. Amjad Hossain, BCB director and chairman of the Media Committee, confirmed that the government will oversee the resolution of the pending cases and guarantee Shakib’s security. The board has formally requested that Shakib be reinstated to the national team whenever necessary, and the submission of the case documents marks a concrete step towards this objective.

Cricket analysts suggest that Shakib’s return would be a major boost for the team, not only strengthening Bangladesh’s on-field performance but also inspiring younger players with his leadership and experience. Fans and commentators alike are eagerly anticipating his reintegration ahead of the upcoming home series against Pakistan.

The following table summarises Shakib Al Hasan’s current status and the steps taken for his return:
