The body of a six-year-old boy who had been missing for a day was discovered on the rooftop of a neighbour’s under-construction building in Raipura, Narsingdi, prompting shock and grief among local residents and raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The deceased child, Abdur Rahman, was the son of Shakkur Ali, a migrant worker currently living in Malaysia. The family resides in Char Morjal village under Morjal Union of Raipura Upazila. The tragic discovery was made on Sunday morning, 15 March, approximately 24 hours after the child was reported missing.

According to local sources, Rahman had left his home on Saturday morning after taking a small amount of money from his mother to buy snacks from a nearby shop. After making the purchase, he reportedly wandered outside and did not return home. When several hours passed without any sign of him, family members and neighbours began searching the surrounding area.

Despite an extensive search throughout the day and evening, the child could not be located. Concerned for his safety, the family filed a missing person report at the Raipura Police Station later that day.

The grim discovery occurred at around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Idris Mia, a neighbour who owns a building currently under construction near the family’s home, went to the rooftop to water newly laid concrete. Upon reaching the roof, he noticed the lifeless body of the child lying on the surface.

Startled by the discovery, Idris immediately alerted nearby residents and informed the boy’s relatives. News spread quickly through the neighbourhood, drawing a crowd of locals to the scene. The police were subsequently notified and arrived shortly afterwards to secure the area and recover the body.

Rahman’s mother expressed profound grief and disbelief while speaking to reporters. She stated that her son had been missing since Saturday morning and that the family had searched tirelessly but found no trace of him. She added that the family has no known disputes or enemies and demanded justice for the death of her child.

Investigating officer Probir Kumar Ghosh of Raipura Police Station confirmed that officers had begun preliminary inquiries at the scene. According to the officer, visible injury marks were observed around the child’s neck, raising suspicion that the death may not have been accidental.

Authorities have prepared an initial inquest report, and the body is expected to undergo a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death. Police officials indicated that further details will be released once the investigation progresses and forensic findings become available.

Local residents described the incident as deeply disturbing, noting that the quiet rural community rarely witnesses such tragedies. Many villagers gathered outside the residence of the grieving family to offer condolences and express concern over the safety of children in the area.

Law enforcement authorities have assured the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate legal action will be taken once the cause of death and any potential involvement of others are established.
