Thunderstorms and Hail Forecast Across Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a warning of potential thunderstorms and rain across the country over the next 24 hours, with isolated instances of hail expected in some areas. Slight decreases in daytime and nighttime temperatures are also anticipated during this period.

According to the forecast issued on Sunday, 15 March, at 9:00 am, the following regions are likely to experience temporary squally winds accompanied by rain and lightning:

Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions – scattered locations

Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barishal divisions – a few locations

In addition, some areas may witness sporadic hail showers, creating hazardous conditions for commuters and outdoor activities.

Synoptic Overview

Meteorologists report that a trough of low pressure is currently situated over West Bengal and adjacent areas, while the seasonal normal low pressure remains over the southern Bay of Bengal. Winds in Dhaka are blowing from the west and northwest at speeds of 10–15 km/h, occasionally gusting to 40–50 km/h.

At 6:00 am, the relative humidity in Dhaka was recorded at 79 per cent. The sunset in Dhaka is expected at 6:07 pm today, with sunrise tomorrow at 6:07 am.

Bangladesh experienced a wide temperature range yesterday, with the highest temperature recorded in Ishwardi at 34.8°C. The lowest temperature today so far has been observed in Sylhet at 15.0°C.

Motorists and pedestrians should take necessary precautions, while fishermen are urged to avoid venturing into open waters during this unsettled weather period.
