The Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar Highway is a major transport route connecting Chattogram with the coastal district of Cox’s Bazar. It carries substantial passenger and commercial traffic, including inter-district buses and private vehicles. Accidents on the highway can have serious consequences, particularly when vehicles collide head-on.
Head-on collisions can cause severe injuries because of the combined impact of vehicles travelling in opposite directions. Maintaining safe speeds, remaining alert to oncoming traffic and avoiding risky overtaking are important precautions on busy highways.
The deaths of Ismat Ara and Maisha Akter have added to the human cost of road accidents in Bangladesh, where highway safety remains a significant public concern. The two surviving passengers were sent to Chattogram for further medical care, while further information about the circumstances of the crash was awaited.
