Chittagong University has officially released the results of the first-year undergraduate admission test for its ‘A’ Unit. Out of 79,410 candidates who sat the examination across three divisions—Dhaka, Chittagong, and Rajshahi—41,609 students have successfully passed, while 37,801 candidates failed, resulting in a pass rate of 52.40 per cent. The top scorer achieved an impressive 90.65 marks out of 100.
The results were published on Wednesday afternoon, accessible via the university’s official website and its Facebook page. Professor Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, the university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic), confirmed the outcome to media outlets.
The ‘A’ Unit encompasses faculties of Science, Biological Sciences, Engineering, and Marine Sciences and Fisheries. The entrance test for this unit was held last Friday, marking a significant step in the admission process for thousands of aspiring undergraduates. The unit offers a total of 1,093 seats.
A review of previous years shows fluctuating pass rates. In the 2024–25 academic session, the pass rate for the ‘A’ Unit was 53.65 per cent, whereas in 2023–24, it stood at 45.22 per cent. This year’s results indicate a 7.18 per cent increase compared with 2023–24, yet a 1.25 per cent decrease compared with the previous year. Notably, the university lowered the minimum eligibility requirements for applicants this year and did not consider candidates’ SSC and HSC GPA results in the assessment.
| Academic Year | Candidates Sat | Passed | Failed | Pass Rate (%) | Available Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023–24 | 75,800 | 34,300 | 41,500 | 45.22 | 1,093 |
| 2024–25 | 78,900 | 42,350 | 36,550 | 53.65 | 1,093 |
| 2025–26 | 79,410 | 41,609 | 37,801 | 52.40 | 1,093 |
In line with last year’s structure, this year the university is conducting tests across four main units and three sub-units. Altogether, 233,326 students were expected to sit for the examinations in 2025–26. On Wednesday, the B-1 sub-unit examination for students applying to the Departments of Dramatic Arts, Music, and Fine Arts took place. Upcoming tests include the C Unit on Friday and the B Unit on Saturday, while the B-2 sub-unit examination is scheduled for Thursday.
Education experts suggest that changes in minimum eligibility criteria and the exclusion of GPA scores may have influenced this year’s results. Despite minor fluctuations in the pass rate, the overall trend indicates steady performance among candidates.
