The body of an 18-year-old college student, identified as Tousif Shahriar, has been recovered from a residence in the Banasree area of Rampura, Dhaka. The deceased was a second-year intermediate student in the science stream at Dhaka College.
According to official sources, the incident occurred on Saturday, 6 June. The student was discovered unresponsive inside his home during the morning hours. He was subsequently rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the attending physician at the emergency department pronounced him dead at approximately 09:30 BST.
Tousif Shahriar was the only son of Abdul Jalil and Shamima Akhter. The family originally hails from Kuntai village, located in the Sonatala upazila of Bogura district, but had been residing in the Banasree neighbourhood of Rampura in the capital.
The student’s mother, Shamima Akhter, provided details regarding the discovery of her son’s body. She stated that the family members were asleep during the early morning hours. Upon noticing a complete lack of response from Tousif’s room later in the morning, she entered the premises to investigate. She discovered her son hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf wrapped around his neck.
Although family members lowered him immediately and transported him to the emergency facility at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, medical personnel confirmed that he could not be revived. The mother further noted that the family remains entirely unaware of any underlying reasons or motives that may have led to the incident.
The fatality was formally confirmed by Inspector Mohammad Faruk, the officer-in-charge of the DMCH police camp, citing the report provided by the attending hospital physicians. Following standard protocol for such incidents, the body has been transferred to the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination to establish the precise cause of death.
