Teenager Assaulted in Pirojpur; Pensioner Arrested

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Pirojpur after going to a riverbank to collect flowers. Following the incident, police authorities apprehended a 60-year-old man identified as Abdul Gani Shikdar. The incident occurred on Friday (5 June) at approximately 06:30 BST in the Muktarkathi area, located within Ward No. 1 of the Pirojpur Sadar Municipality.

Incident and Immediate Rescue

According to police and local sources, the teenage girl had walked to the banks of the Baleshwar River on Friday morning to gather Spanish cherry (Bakul) flowers. The suspect, Abdul Gani Shikdar, reportedly used deception to lure the victim into his vacant residence nearby. Inside the property, he allegedly intimidated the girl with various threats before assaulting her.

Hearing the victim’s screams, nearby residents rushed to the scene to rescue her. The locals subsequently detained the suspect and alerted the law enforcement authorities. A team from the Sadar Police Station arrived shortly afterwards, took the suspect into custody, and transported him to the station.

Legal Proceedings and Statement from the Family

The victim’s mother has formally initiated legal proceedings by filing a rape case as the plaintiff at the Pirojpur Sadar Police Station. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a local facility.

The mother stated that their residence is situated close to the Baleshwar River, where her daughter routinely went to gather flowers. She alleged that the suspect had premeditated the attack, lying in wait before drawing the girl into his empty house. Furthermore, the mother reported that when she reached the location after learning of the incident, she was threatened with physical assault by the suspect, prompting her to contact the police immediately.

Official Police Response

Shariful Islam, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station, confirmed the details of the operation. He stated that upon receiving the emergency call, the police deployment was instantaneous. The officers successfully rescued the victim from the site and took the detained suspect into custody.

Following the formal filing of the case by the victim’s mother, Abdul Gani Shikdar was officially placed under arrest. The police presented the accused before the court, which subsequently ordered him to be remanded in prison pending further judicial proceedings.
