Debate Grows over Sexual Themes in Sabrina’s Music

Published: 08 Dec 2025, 11:57 am

American singer Sabrina Carpenter has continued her global rise over the past two years while also attracting considerable public debate. Her 2024 hit ‘Espresso’ became one of the year’s most talked-about songs, and her first Grammy nomination arrived in February the following year, marking a major step in her career. She later won two awards for ‘Espresso’ and ‘Short and Sweet’. The world tour she began last September concluded in March this year.

In June, her new single ‘Manchild’ stormed the top charts shortly after its release. On 29 August, she unveiled her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend, which drew strong reactions from fans. Just two days earlier, Spotify released its list of the most-streamed artists of 2025, placing Sabrina in the fifth position.

Speaking to Variety, Sabrina said she hardly spends time reflecting on how her year went or what she could have done differently. Instead, she prefers to work on her own terms. She even suggested that she might not release any new song next year.

Despite her achievements, criticism has followed her closely. Her latest album breaks away from the stereotypical ‘good girl’ image, with several songs discussing sexuality. Although this has sparked strong reactions in different circles, Sabrina remains unfazed.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, she noted that people often complain she sings too much about sexual themes, yet those same listeners make the songs popular. According to her, the audience’s interest reinforces why such themes naturally find a place in her work and are reflected in her live performances.

Beyond music, Sabrina is also engaged in other creative ventures. She is set to play the lead role in a musical film inspired by Alice in Wonderland, for which she will also serve as producer. The project is expected to open a new chapter in her artistic journey.
