Dedicated Civil Servant Dr Momenul Islam Passes Away in Netrokona

The public health sector in Netrokona is in mourning following the sudden death of Dr Momenul Islam, the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer for Mohanganj. The 45-year-old medical officer collapsed shortly after finishing an official workplace meeting on Saturday morning and was subsequently declared dead upon arrival at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital later that afternoon.

Circumstances of the Incident

Hospital officials reported that Dr Islam had been conducting a morning administrative assembly at the Mohanganj Upazila Health Complex. Minutes after the session concluded, he complained of acute physical discomfort and began haematemesis (vomiting blood).

Colleagues at the health complex rendered immediate medical intervention to manage his condition. However, given the rapid decline in his vital signs, medical staff arranged for an urgent transfer to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced emergency care. The duty doctor in the emergency department pronounced him dead at approximately 2:30 pm.

Originally from Roumari Upazila in Kurigram district, Dr Islam was known for his administrative diligence and patient-centric approach.

He took charge as the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer in Mohanganj in May 2025. In this capacity, he was instrumental in overseeing local medical services, coordinating public health campaigns, and enhancing clinical care delivery across rural community clinics.
