A devastating road accident in Fulbari, Dinajpur, on Wednesday morning has resulted in the deaths of two people and left another seriously injured, highlighting the ongoing risks on the region’s highways. The crash occurred around 8:00 am in the Boliherpur area of Aladipur Union, along the Dinajpur–Gobindganj regional road.
According to Abdul Latib Shah, Officer-in-Charge of Fulbari Police Station, the deceased were Ainul Islam, 53, a van driver from Rajarampur in Shibnagar Union, and Ruma Khatun, 22, a female passenger from Baraihat in Aladipur Union. Another passenger, 45-year-old Yasmin Akter, was injured and is currently undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.
Local eyewitnesses reported that the two female workers were travelling by van from Baraihat to their workplace when a truck heading towards Dinajpur lost control and struck the van. Ainul Islam and Ruma Khatun were killed instantly at the scene, while Yasmin Akter was rushed to hospital for urgent medical care.
Following the collision, the truck driver and an associate fled the scene, leaving the victims behind. Police arrived swiftly, recovered the bodies, conducted preliminary documentation, and impounded the truck for investigation. Officer Shah confirmed that arrangements are in progress to return the bodies to the families, and a case under the Road Transport Act is currently under processing.
The table below summarises the key details of those involved:

Residents have long criticised the Dinajpur–Gobindganj highway for its narrow width and poor maintenance. Frequent high-speed traffic combined with weak road infrastructure has made accidents increasingly likely, raising alarm among commuters.
Police have strengthened security at the site and launched a search for the truck driver and accomplice. This is the second major accident in Fulbari this year, prompting authorities to appeal to the public to exercise extreme caution while travelling.
The tragedy has deeply affected the local community, with government officials and social welfare organisations extending their condolences to the bereaved families and offering support to the injured. Local authorities have also hinted at reviewing road safety measures, including improved signage, speed control, and maintenance, in a bid to prevent future incidents.
