In a chilling incident in Bogura’s Dupchanchia Upazila, a 55-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, Mozam Uddin Shah, was brutally murdered, and his battery-powered auto-van was stolen. The crime took place on the night of Tuesday, 24 February, beside a paddy field near the Dupchanchia-Akkelpur road in Borhia, Jyangar Union.
According to Dupchanchia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Afzal Hossain, Shah was struck on the head by the assailants and later dumped in water. His body was recovered and sent to the morgue for post-mortem examination. Police confirmed that preparations for a formal case are underway, and an investigation is ongoing.
Shah, a resident of Jhalgharia village in Jyangar Union, was the son of the late Mohir Uddin Shah. Relatives and local sources stated that he had left home on Tuesday afternoon as usual to transport passengers in his auto-van. At some point during the night, unknown criminals attacked him, fatally striking his head. His body was then discarded in a water-filled paddy field near an under-construction bridge along the Dupchanchia-Akkelpur road, and the assailants fled with the vehicle.
The discovery was made on Wednesday morning when passersby noticed the body and alerted the police. Officers from Dupchanchia Police Station promptly recovered the body and transferred it to the morgue at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (Shajimek). Post-mortem reports indicated multiple injuries on the head and other parts of the body, confirming the violent nature of the attack.
OC Afzal Hossain elaborated, “The perpetrators, disguised as passengers, assaulted Mozam Uddin Shah with the intention of stealing his auto-van. After killing him, they disposed of the body in the water near the bridge. The vehicle is still missing. Investigations are ongoing, and we are conducting operations to apprehend the culprits.”
