A 40-year-old farmer was discovered dead in his own cultivated field in Mirsarai, casting a pall of grief and anxiety over the rural community. The deceased, identified as Chowdhury Mia, was a resident of Thakurdighi village under Durgapur ইউনিয়ন in the Chattogram district.
According to police, the body was recovered on Tuesday morning (25 February) from arable land situated north of Thakurdighi Bazar, adjacent to a brick kiln. Officers from Jorarganj Police Station confirmed that the body bore visible bloodstains. Following an initial inquest at the scene, the remains were sent to the morgue of Chattogram Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Local residents reported that Chowdhury Mia had been engaged in routine agricultural work in recent days. However, when he failed to appear in the morning, neighbours grew concerned. Upon visiting his land, they discovered his lifeless body lying amid the crops and immediately informed the authorities.
Officer-in-Charge Kazi Nazmul Haque stated that an inquest report had been completed and that investigators were awaiting the autopsy findings to determine the precise cause of death. He noted that, at this preliminary stage, it remains unclear whether the incident resulted from homicide, accident, or self-harm. A formal investigation is under way.
Described by villagers as industrious and peaceable, Chowdhury Mia’s death has deeply unsettled the local farming community. Many residents have expressed apprehension, particularly given the ambiguity surrounding the circumstances. Family members and neighbours have urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift and transparent inquiry.
Local civic leaders have also called for enhanced vigilance and security measures in rural areas to prevent similar tragedies.
