During the month of December, which marks the great victory of Bangladesh, national team pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib has paid tribute to the Liberation War and its courageous fighters with deep pride. While cricketers in the country are celebrated as heroes for various sporting achievements, Tanzim believes that the true heroes of Bangladesh are the freedom fighters, whose sacrifices, bravery, and dedication have secured the nation’s independence and dignity.
On Friday (12 December) at 11:00 am, Tanzim shared a heartfelt post on Facebook expressing his respect for the nine-month Liberation War. He wrote, “I feel proud of the Liberation War. I feel proud of the freedom fighters. They had no training, they did not know the techniques of war, yet they took up arms against the trained Pakistani army, driven solely by love for their country and attachment to the soil.”
He added, “These are the people who transformed us from a fearful nation into a courageous one. It is because of them that I can proudly display Bangladesh’s flag on the world stage through cricket. Our true heroes, our real celebrities, are our freedom fighters.”
On the cricketing front, Tanzim Hasan Sakib is a regular member of Bangladesh’s white-ball teams, particularly in the Twenty20 format. He was included in the squad for the most recent Ireland series, where he claimed three wickets in two matches. In total, he has played 40 T20 internationals and taken 47 wickets.
Additionally, he has taken 24 wickets in 15 One Day Internationals. His experience in Test cricket is limited, having played only a single match for the national team.
Beyond his cricketing achievements, Tanzim’s post reflects his profound respect for the country’s history and the sacrifices of the Liberation War. By recalling the significance of the independence struggle and the bravery of the freedom fighters, he reminds everyone that the nation’s true heroes are those courageous, freedom-loving individuals who continue to instill pride in the present generation.
While Tanzim has achieved much as a sportsman, in his eyes, it is the freedom fighters who represent the greatest pride and deserve the highest respect of the nation. His statement beautifully intertwines sport and history, serving as a poignant reminder of who the real heroes of Bangladesh truly are.
