Jhenaidah’s Harinakunda native, Jewel Rana, has emerged as one of Bangladesh’s most popular content creators, captivating audiences with his heartfelt portrayal of rural life, agriculture, and nature. His creative work seamlessly intertwines human stories with literary references, offering both education and entertainment.
Jewel launched his Facebook page, “Chitto Media”, on 4 February 2025, which now boasts over 3.5 million followers. On YouTube, he has attracted nearly 100,000 subscribers, with multiple videos garnering 20 to 30 million views each. Since the start of 2025, he has published more than 1,350 videos, averaging three uploads daily. His content primarily explores themes of human experience, nature, and village life.
In one of his most popular videos, Jewel accompanies a farmer still ploughing with cattle, narrating passages from Al Mahmud’s acclaimed Pankouri’r Rakt alongside other stories and poems from Bengali literature, merging human life with the surrounding natural scenery. Another video highlights a bent palm tree struggling to survive a storm, conveying a poignant message: “The will to endure must first exist within oneself.”
Jewel completed his Master’s degree in Law from Islamic University in 2018 and briefly practised as a lawyer. Yet he soon realised that traditional work could not satisfy his creative and emotional aspirations. His fascination with soil, nature, and human narratives drew him toward content creation.
Travelling across the rural areas of Jhenaidah and Chuadanga with his two collaborators, Ikramul Kabir and Hasanuzzaman, Jewel films stories that capture both the beauty and subtle rhythms of village life. Their dedication includes waiting patiently to record the call of a cuckoo or staying out all night to capture the haunting cry of a jackal—an attentiveness that sets their work apart.
Reflecting on his craft, Jewel notes, “Gaining the trust of villagers is the greatest challenge in making videos. When someone comments that a video evokes memories of their own childhood in the village, I feel successful. To depict the beauty of the world, you need to be a little crazy.”
Currently, Jewel resides in Jhenaidah city with his wife, Nisha, and their three-year-old daughter, Jesi. His parents and sister remain in their ancestral village. Through Chitto Media, Jewel Rana has created a platform where rural life, literary storytelling, and the language of nature converge, delivering content that is simultaneously educational, humanitarian, and entertaining.
