India Tour of Bangladesh Under Discussion for September Window

An international cricket series between Bangladesh and India is being positioned for September, potentially rescheduling a previously planned Twenty20 International series between India and Afghanistan.

Discussions regarding the bilateral series have advanced significantly over recent days. Under the proposed itinerary, India are expected to visit Bangladesh for three One Day Internationals (ODIs) scheduled for 1, 3, and 6 September. The tour would then conclude with three Twenty20 Internationals on 9, 12, and 13 September.

Scheduling Conflicts and Logistical Overlap

The proposed timeline presents a direct scheduling conflict with India’s existing international commitments. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had previously arranged a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, set to take place on 13, 15, and 17 September in Delhi.

Because the final T20I match of the Bangladesh tour falls on the exact day the Afghanistan series was set to begin, holding both series concurrently on their current dates is mathematically impossible. Consequently, the series against Afghanistan is expected to be pushed back.

Historic Context and Squad Capabilities

The planned series against Afghanistan carries unique historical weight. While Afghanistan have utilised neutral venues in India as their home base for several years due to political instability at home, this fixture was slated to mark the first time Afghanistan officially acted as the “home” host team against India on Indian soil, using Delhi’s venue as their designated base.

Despite the overlapping schedules, officials have noted that the Indian cricket ecosystem possesses sufficient player depth to field two separate national squads simultaneously if necessary. However, finalizing the Bangladesh fixtures remains the primary administrative priority as cricket boards resolve the final adjustments to the late-summer calendar.
