Whilst the match secured a decisive win for India, the contest will be remembered primarily for another record-breaking milestone by Virat Kohli.
Facing a sharp, short delivery from West Indian fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, Kohli pulled the ball towards the mid-wicket boundary with characteristic authority. That single boundary elevated him into an elite tier of international cricket: he became only the second batsman in One Day International history to cross the 15,000-run threshold, joining the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
The speed at which Kohli achieved this feat sets a new standard in modern cricket. Whilst Tendulkar took 377 innings to reach 15,000 ODI runs, Kohli required only 303 innings to accomplish the same milestone. His career progression highlights an unprecedented level of consistency; Kohli holds the record for being the fastest player to reach every 1,000-run increment from 8,000 through to 15,000 runs in the 50-over format.
Following the milestone, the former captain accelerated his scoring to register his 55th ODI century. He finished unbeaten on 139 off just 88 balls, an inning comprising ten boundaries and nine sixes that systematically dismantled the West Indian bowling attack.
