Students of the capital’s government seven colleges will stage a major protest march today, Wednesday (3 December), demanding the swift issuance of the proposed Dhaka Central University Ordinance. The march will begin at 11 am from Dhaka College and end at Eden Mohila College.

The programme has been announced by the Seven College University Transformation Movement. In a statement on Tuesday (2 December) night, the organisation said that although discussions were held at various levels regarding the draft ‘Dhaka Central University Ordinance–2025’, no final progress has been made.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Education collected opinions online from 24 September to 9 October and later held three rounds of meetings with teachers, students, alumni and civil society. However, the final ordinance has not yet been released, leaving more than 150,000 students facing an identity crisis, academic uncertainty and concerns about their future.

In this situation, the movement leaders have called today’s large demonstration to press for the President’s office to issue the ordinance without delay. After the march, a press conference will be held at the main gate of Dhaka College.

All students of the proposed Dhaka Central University, meaning the seven colleges, have been urged to participate in the programme.
