In a striking escalation of political rhetoric, prominent journalist and commentator Manjurul Alam Panna has launched a scathing critique against Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel laureate and current Chief Adviser of the interim government. Panna has publicly designated Dr Yunus as the "foremost enemy and traitor" in the 55-year history of Bangladesh, sparking intense debate across social media platforms and political circles.
During a recent address, Panna asserted that Dr Yunus's role since the nation’s independence has been fundamentally detrimental to the "soil, people, and the spirit of the Liberation War." He went as far as to demand that the Chief Adviser be officially categorised in national textbooks as the country’s most significant "Razakar" (a term historically used for collaborators during the 1971 war) and traitor.
"It is the collective responsibility of every citizen to unmask this individual before the global community," Panna stated, urging for an international campaign to reshape the world's perception of the microfinance pioneer. These sentiments were echoed and amplified by social media personality Nila Israfil, who shared Panna's demands on her verified Facebook page, further galvanising his supporters.
Manjurul Alam Panna is a well-known figure in Bangladeshi media, primarily through his YouTube channel, Manchitra, and his frequent appearances as a political analyst on various televised talk shows. His relationship with the current administration has been fraught with tension:
August 2024: Panna was arrested alongside several other journalists on charges related to his criticism of the government and his public expressions of dissent.
Human Rights Response: His detention at the time drew significant concern from international human rights organisations, who viewed the arrests as a crackdown on press freedom.
Current Status: Following a period of incarceration, he was released on bail and has since resumed his vocal opposition to the interim leadership.

| Primary Demand | Inclusion of Dr Yunus in textbooks as a "Razakar" |
Panna’s comments come at a time of significant national sensitivity. By using the term "Razakar"—the most loaded epithet in the Bangladeshi political lexicon—he is seeking to delegitimise Dr Yunus’s standing both domestically and abroad. Critics of the journalist argue that such extreme language borders on incitement, while his supporters view it as a necessary challenge to the interim government's authority.
As the country navigates a complex transitional period, the "unmasking" sought by Panna reflects the deep ideological schisms currently defining the Bangladeshi political landscape.
