Mehazabien Chowdhury Rebuts Smear Campaign with Legal Action

Published: 25 Feb 2026, 05:59 am

The celebrated Bangladeshi actress Mehazabien Chowdhury has broken her silence following a wave of controversial reports that have set the media industry abuzz. Addressing what she describes as a "baseless and motivated" character assassination attempt, the star confirmed on Tuesday that she has officially initiated legal proceedings against those spreading defamatory claims regarding an alleged airport detention.

The Allegations vs. The Reality

The controversy stems from reports suggesting that in August of last year, while returning from Bangkok, Mehazabien was intercepted at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with illicit goods—specifically 14 bottles of alcohol. The reports further claimed she was accompanied by her husband, director Adnan Al Rajeev, and filmmaker Shankha Dasgupta, and that airport authorities mysteriously cleared them despite the discovery.

In a detailed post on her verified Facebook page, Mehazabien categorically denied every facet of the story. "I was never stopped at the airport, nor was any handbag or luggage of mine seized," she stated. She challenged the purveyors of the news to produce a single shred of evidence, such as a photograph, video, or official statement from airport security, to validate their claims.

A Pattern of "Targeting"

This is not the first time the actress has found herself in the crosshairs of the law or the media. Earlier this week, she lamented that she had become a "target" for coordinated attacks. Her frustration points to a broader issue within digital journalism: the rise of "clickbait" culture where a celebrity's reputation is sacrificed for social media engagement.

Incident TimelineAllegation/EventStatus/Outcome
August 2024Alleged airport detention with 14 bottles of alcohol.Denied: No evidence provided; legal action taken.
November 2024Allegations of embezzlement in a family business.Exonerated: Cleared of all charges by the court.
February 2026Social media campaign using misleading thumbnails.Active: Handled via Cyber Tribunal and legal notices.

Defending Professional Integrity

Mehazabien expressed profound concern over how defamation has become "normalised" in the digital age. She highlighted that using an artist's image for sensationalist headlines without factual backing is not just unprofessional but "deeply alarming."

The actress reaffirmed her innocence, noting that her previous legal victory in a business-related case proves her commitment to transparency. By taking the matter to court, she aims to set a precedent against the unchecked spread of misinformation that plagues high-profile figures in the entertainment sector.
