Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Considering the complexity of his physical condition and the critical nature of his health, the hospital authorities have formed a medical board comprising specialists from various departments. The board consists of a total of 15 experienced and specialist physicians, who are jointly overseeing and coordinating the entire course of Hadi’s treatment.
The information was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday (13 December) by Dr Md Zafar Iqbal, senior consultant and coordinator of the ICU and HDU departments at Evercare Hospital. According to the statement, following the completion of surgery on Friday, Sharif Osman Hadi was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to the Critical Care Unit of Evercare Hospital Dhaka. He is currently receiving intensive post-operative monitoring and necessary medical care under close supervision.
In the statement, the medical board presented eleven important decisions and observations regarding Hadi’s current physical condition. The first observation noted that Sharif Osman Hadi’s brain has been severely damaged. As the surgical procedure has already been completed, his condition must now be managed conservatively. In this process, strict adherence to brain protection protocols is required, along with the continuation of all necessary life-support measures. If his physical condition becomes somewhat stable, a repeat CT scan of the brain may be considered.
The second observation stated that Hadi has sustained an injury to his lungs, and a small amount of blood is coming out through the chest drain tube. For this reason, the drain tube must be kept in place. At the same time, special caution must be exercised to prevent the development of lung infection and acute respiratory distress syndrome, while ventilator support should be continued accordingly.
In the third observation, the medical board informed that Hadi’s kidney function has returned. To maintain this improvement, the current fluid balance management should be continued as it is. The fourth observation mentioned that the imbalance between blood clotting and bleeding, identified as disseminated intravascular coagulation, has largely come under control. However, this condition must be continuously monitored, and blood as well as various blood components should be transfused whenever necessary.
The fifth observation highlighted that due to injury to the brain stem, fluctuations in blood pressure and heart rate are being observed. The existing blood pressure support should be continued in the same manner. If the heart rate drops significantly, the medical team remains fully prepared to install a temporary pacemaker if required.
In the sixth observation, the medical board expressed sincere gratitude to the doctors and supportive staff of the One-Stop Crisis Centre, Radiology, ICU, Anaesthesia, Neurosurgery and other departments of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for their dedicated efforts. The seventh observation stated that Sharif Osman Hadi’s overall condition remains extremely critical at present.
The eighth observation noted that the medical summary has been explained in detail to the patient’s brother and close relatives. They may, if they wish, inform the nation about updates on his condition through the media. The medical team has also requested prayers from everyone for Hadi’s recovery. The ninth observation urged people not to gather unnecessarily at the hospital, clearly stating that no visitors are allowed.
In the tenth observation, the medical board appealed to the public to refrain from spreading speculation or incorrect information, and instead place trust in the medical team. Cooperation was also sought to ensure the protection of the patient’s personal privacy and dignity. In the eleventh and final observation, it was stated that the medical team is continuing Hadi’s treatment with the highest level of professionalism and sincerity, and once again appealed to all to pray for his physical improvement and recovery.
