Naogaon University Officially Launches Academic Activities

After years of anticipation, Naogaon University has formally begun its academic journey with a colourful inauguration ceremony, marking a significant milestone for higher education in the district. The launch was celebrated with the participation of government officials, education leaders, local representatives, academics, students and members of the public, creating an atmosphere of optimism and celebration.

The university’s academic activities were officially inaugurated at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at its temporary campus located in the Barunkandi Mor area of Naogaon town. Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon unveiled the university’s name plaque, formally declaring the commencement of its educational programme.

Following the inauguration, the minister toured several key facilities at the campus, including classrooms, the modern library and the computer laboratory. During the visit, he was briefed by university authorities on the institution’s academic preparations, available learning facilities and plans for future development as it begins its first phase of operations.

The ceremony was attended by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam; Education Secretary Abdul Khaleque; University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed; UGC Member Professor Dr Abdullah Al Mamun; Director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel; and Naogaon University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Hasanat Ali.

Members of Parliament representing Naogaon’s six parliamentary constituencies, along with the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, senior government officials, academics, teachers, students and invited guests, also attended the event.

The opening of Naogaon University is widely regarded as an important step forward for higher education in the district. For many years, students from Naogaon seeking university education have largely depended on institutions in other parts of Bangladesh. The establishment of a university within the district is expected to improve local access to higher education and create new opportunities for students to pursue academic studies closer to home.

Education experts have long emphasised that expanding higher education institutions beyond major urban centres can help reduce regional disparities in educational access while supporting local social and economic development. Against that backdrop, the launch of Naogaon University is expected to contribute to the development of skilled graduates and strengthen the district’s academic landscape as the institution grows.

Later, at approximately 12:15 p.m., the Education Minister attended a reception for newly admitted students and a civic gathering held at the Sadar Upazila Parishad Auditorium. The programme welcomed the university’s first cohort of students and marked the beginning of their academic journey.

The inauguration concluded with expressions of hope that Naogaon University would gradually establish itself as a reputable centre of higher learning through quality education, academic excellence and the continued development of its teaching and research facilities.
