Nazrul Islam Manju Assumes Khulna City Administrator Role

Khulna, Bangladesh: Nazrul Islam Manju has officially assumed the role of Administrator of the Khulna City Corporation, taking charge with a pledge to ensure transparent and accountable governance. On Sunday afternoon, he received the formal handover from Khulna Divisional Commissioner and outgoing Administrator Md. Mokhtar Ahmed at the Shahid Altaf Auditorium of the city hall.

The ceremony was presided over by Khulna City Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, Rajib Ahmed. Attendees included senior officials from government and non-government institutions, as well as political and social leaders from across the city.

Commitments and Priorities

Speaking at the handover, Nazrul Islam Manju emphasised his commitment to integrity and service. “It is my foremost responsibility to manage this century-old City Corporation with absolute honesty and dedication,” he stated. “I will work tirelessly to uphold the dignity and respect of all citizens and to address their concerns promptly and effectively.”

He further assured that the City Corporation would operate as a completely corruption-free institution. “I have no intention of personal gain through unlawful income, and I will ensure that no officer under my supervision engages in illegal transactions. All development projects will be implemented accurately and sustainably. No commission-based business will interfere with the administration,” he said.

Manju also underscored the importance of direct engagement with the city and its people. “City officials and staff must work alongside me from early morning, actively participating in our efforts. Our goal is a clean and orderly city—not merely a vision, but a reality. The administration will be present on the streets, and I expect everyone to be visible among the people,” he added.

He concluded by addressing citizen concerns: “We are aware of the many complaints from residents, and we want to listen and take action. Through accountability, we aim to deliver a transparent City Corporation. Our city is home to people of diverse faiths, many of whom have shared their grievances with me. One of the most urgent issues is security, and we are committed to providing it.”
